Phil all depends what ID number he gave the DVLA ..and what was on the paperwork.that came with the car ....it might also be that it had never been registered before 86.. if he used the later engine number then that could be the reason either that or he has been sold a dodgy motor

the other thing to consider, if it came into US base over here. If it didn't leave the base it would not need to be UK registered.

a mate of mine has a 1966 chevy chevele but it is on a 1979 T reg plate. it has free road tax ie pre 1973. the car came over here from the usa in 1979. I have seen other cars with alot newer reg plates at shows & meets. like sy who comes to the cambridge meet in his mustang. his car is older than the reg plate. also my old 1976 camaro was on a 1979/80 V reg so have a look next time you are at a big show. I bet you see 1 or 2 cars with newer reg plates on.
