hi guys

I think my petrol pump is on its last legs, would a weak pump not deliver enough petrol  at high revs ??

its chevy 305 V8   with a 500 cfm Edelbrock carb on it  if that helps

possibly but its more lickly to be drawing air somewere or even a kinked pipe somewere,, just stick the fuel pipe in a big old pop bottle and get someone to wind it over a couple a seconds and it should have a good flow.
???whats yer motor doing to suspect fule shortage. missing a bit or holding back as it could just be crap n carb /jets/etc with been stood all that time.

would recomend a 600cfm edelbrock for a 305......... use the 500 on rover V8's ..have you got an in line fuel filter fitted if so check that as it could be blocked ..if not check for crap in the carb or lines ...Edelbrocks need an in-line filter as there is no filter in the carb like there is in Holley's...but more than likely the fuel pump diaphragm ......beg steal or borrow one to check it or remove and strip down to check the diaphragm ....if faulty don't try to repair it it's cheaper in the long run to get a replacement pump...

The lines from the tank are new, and so is the inline filter,
itll rev happily upto 7500  in park but as soon as you get moving it wont rev past 3500/4000 rpm in drive  , I'm borrowing a holley electric pump later on today I'll see if that helps

Grrr   Edelbrock carbs  are naff,
I tried everything I could think off, replaced the fuel pump ,new gaskets on the intake manifold incase it was sucking in air I went out and brought a new 600 cfm Holley carb this morning and now it runs fine, and has a lot more get up and go:)

thanks everyone for the advice

new 600 cfm Holley

Think thats your clue Andy. 600cfm not 500. 500 seems a small carb for a 305ci motor?
