Good afternoon folks,

I know I'm rarely on here, however I still DO have Amy. Every time I keep meaning to sort out one or two things and sell her, I keep not doing so :-).

In fact the only thing she needs right now is a cosmetic repair on the door (yeah, clumsy driver here), a service and something done to the exhaust manifold-on the other side I think this time.

That leads me to my next question. Are new manifolds expensive? I'm being a bit lazy as on monday I can probably ask US Automotive :-). However I'm hoping to tap into experience on here if possible.

I have reached the point with her where I'll probably only sell her if my next job requires me to use my own car an awful lot.

I have to be honest and admit she's been more reliable than just about every other car I've owned. That surprises me because she's also louder and has more noises than any other car I've owned pretty much :-).

Her last MOT she failed...

On a headlight adjustment that I went into the MOT bay with the guy and did myself in front of him. And one rear seat bolt that I'd removed purely because I'd stripped some interior for the repair work on the outside LOL. The bolt was in the boot.

Anyway, sort of saying hi to the forum and that I've still got her. Longest I've kept one car as it happens. She's been good.

Hi Richard.
Long time no speak to
New manifolds are very expensive.  Secondhand is usually the way to go.  What is actually wrong with yours?  It is very rare to have to change one.

Andy.

Well, to be fair I don't actually know I need new ones Andy.
Just that the one that were blowing had been fixed and is now blowing again. The pain in that ass is that my mate had to do some drilling out of studs at the time to sort it out. Remember the fire putty? ;).

I think the other side is blowing now. As it happens, unless you know better, I can't actually get the sparkplug out on the other side at the back without removing the manifold. At least not any way that I can manage so far!

Since the work you guys did to her, I've had new tyres and had her tracked up. Drives really well now. I had the funniest thing though. Because the tracking had been miles off and the tyres worn badly for quite a long time, she'd been wondering her own sweet way. Well, I got so used to compensating automagically that when the new tyres went on and she got straightened up, I was still compensating. No fun for any passenger!! Took me ages to shake that habit.

Still the only thing I paid out for that I shouldn't have done was whatever needed doing on the diff. Because I'd have managed it cheaper where I've been hanging out since then. If it weren't for that, she's actually the cheapest car I've ever mainained so far LOL. Ignoring the MPG bit of course!

Hi again Richard.
I suppose the only way to know is to take them off and have a proper look at them.  If I remember correctly the only way to move that particular plug is to do it from underneath.  Some have had to remove the exhaust Y pipe underneath!!

Y pipe off, manifolds off and plug out-all at the same time.  Shouldn't be too difficult for a nimble fingered mechanic with a lift.

Good luck.
Andy.

You won't believe it LOL. I CAN'T reach 4 plugs purely because my forearms are too big LMAO!.

The polish mechanic who helped me is a little smaller and can reach all 4 with only a little difficulty. Anyway the jobs done now.
