I bid on a GMC Day van Diesel on ebay, but it got away.
the kids are determined I need a Day and I think I might be too.

can anybody tell me just how bad is the fuel consumption really going to be (really, not what you tell the wife).

  them 6.2 diesels aint too great anyways and wont do much more than a proper set up v8 petrol, and when it goes bang it will cost a fortune to replace engine so if your not going to be doing loads a miles go for petrol and driven steady you will have 16 ish mpg to maybe 22 on a run.
  if you do go diesel try for the PROPER 6.5 gm lump as the others 5.7 and 6.2 are only petrol engines converted to run on diesel and boil their nuts off when worked hard.

my van does aprox 22 mpg.its a 5.7 v8 petrol.
i only use mine for shows and holidays and some weekends.if your planning  on useing it daily then have it converted to lpg,cost less to fill up on lpg

Thanks I think I can live with that.

I used to have a nice 4th Gen Camaro z28.
Although I persevered with two kids, eventually I gave up and accepted it wasn't big enough for main family vehicle.
currently I have a 540 V8 BMW.  I still can't believe how gustless a 4 litre 270bhp engine can feel - only when the revs really get going does the car start to shift.
AND ITS BORING.
the day van will be my main car, but I use a motobike to/from work and the wife has a 306 hatch, so many weeks it won't leave the drive.
On 5k miles per year I think it will cost me about another £300-400 in petrol over the 540.  I can live with that. 
I was thinking on 5k per year I think the LPG convertion will take too long to pay back. However Maybe its not as expensive to convert to LPG as I thought.  Can anybody told me what they paid to have it done?

I've found one to look at tonight after work for £4k.
petrol, 1993, 100k miles. anything I should be looking for in particular?
Its a tiara conversion, which I don't know, but my mate in the US recommends.

Jimbo, A guy up the road from me has a tiara conversion on a Chevy G20 ,looks ok and full of all the gadgets and gizmos youd expect.

Im getting anywhere between 18-22 mpg ish out of my 5.0 Chevy van and I use it everyday   .infact it uses less petrolk than the landrover 110 v8 I had a few years back and is a damn sight faster
