Can anyone advise please? I have a 53 Chevy Stepside with a 350 auto small block chevy motor, Jag front end and Z28 rear, I was told the truck used to do dragstrip work but I use it as a daily driver, I know the engine has a mild cam, roller rockers,60 thou overbored, racing pistons, edelbrock manifold,HEI Dizzy, four barrel edelbrock carb, rev counter, it is a quick truck, but I've noticed that I never hear it change gear?every vehicle I've ever owned or driven,I've been able to hear or feel when it changes gear, plus also the changes in revs as it goes through the gears, but this truck pulls away strong, and just keeps going? no revs alteration or gear changing noise or feel!! why is this? is it some kind of special auto box for racing? the truck will drive off from 0 up to motorway speeds without any noticable gear change. if anyone can tell me the reason? Thanks Mo.

Have you tried manualy shifting the gear's instead  of putting it in drive, as the box might have had a shift kit fitted for it's pro-stock drag racing. day's

you can do 70 mph plus in 1st gear if you have a powerglide box and like hemi said they use them alot in drag racing. so I would say this is the box you have.

oops! , I got told by the last owner that it did 12 second quarters in its strip days, which ain't shabby, but its all a bit wasted on me as I always get everywhere last, maybe its a bit of crash barrier syndrome , and it will cruise no problem at a ton, I can't hear myself think at 60 never mind 100, with the wind noise! as its not the most streamline of trucks, but its great for work, hey!! what you doin in Stockport? there ain't no sheep down here, they all left a long time ago,if you get my drift Mo.

What is this pre-conception you and Phil have about me and sheep? just cos I live in Wales doesnt mean I like sheep . There are more things in Wales like the valleys, mountains, sea views, HTV, S4C. traffic jams caused by holiday makers, over enthusiastic traffic police equiped with every piece of the latest anti speeding technology, bi-lingual road signs, different language, free perscriptions for everyone.  Oh I nearly forgot I pass Stockport on my way to Bredbury
