Can some one briefly let me know what the engine sizes are on the Grand jeep.
Also what year the engine sizes changed.
I don't particulary like the newest shape, with them headlights, however the
previous shape is quite good.
By that statement I mean the ones that have the slanted front grill, not the older vertical grill.

What was the years the slanted grill ones came out?
Did they have various different diesel engin sizes.

I believe theye diesel engines are reasonably reliable ?
Am i correct?

Do you mean the model that ran from 2000 to 2005?

If yes the engines were 4.0 litre petrol, 4.7 V8 or 3.1 turbo diesel. Late '02 the diesel swapped to a Merc 2.7 unit. Avoid the 3.1 wherever possible. It's slow, noisy and thirsty.

thanks Roo.
I kinda hit on the Grand's when in US, as my brother has the big pertol V8 one.

I feel from the replies the Merc 2.7 is the one to go for.
Are they all Quadra drive?
What sort of power and mpg could you expect from the Merc powered Grande ?

Why bother with a diesel when a (V8) petrol - with LPG - will do the same only better?

I was going to say the same. A V8 petrol one will be cheaper to buy and you'll get a quality LPG conversion for the saving on the diesel version. You'll have the V8 performance you love but it will actually be cheaper to run than the diesel.

Well that is very interesting.
So perhaps the way to go is V8 and a lpg conversion?
I am novice in lpg.
What is a conversion costing these days?
I heard some while ago that the lpg would not give the same power as petrol, and it was as much as 30% down on power?
Please put me right on these matters.
Thanks.

if it is fitted and set up right you will have the same or more power, i used to know a guy that fitted them to range rover v8s he used to set them up so good, they used to fly, costing will depend on where you take it,

I'm not a fan of diesels and have seen some horrors of LPG conversions. However, done properly I would agree with these guys and LPG a V8. If you go for an Overland they're up on power compared to the standard V8 and are quite quick for the size of car.

mi 5.7 hemi cost £2300 for a prinz multiport lpg injection system fitted with a 230 liter tank
,it will pay for itself in around 10,000 miles
i carnt tell the diffrence between lpg an petrol apart when i fill up, billing an back home with caravan ,(not driven for economy),used to cost £118-£120 on petrol ,now with lpg around £55- £60
at santa pod drag racing its around 1/4 second  an 2-3 mph slower on lpg than petrol,so on road its impossible to tell even when towing,
starts on petrol then switches itself onto lpg when engine temp gets to around 32 C
earlier in year went down to dartmouth ,(no caravan an not driven fer economy),bit o running around an back home nearly 800 miles cost £122 on lpg
keep thinkin about driving fer economy outa curiosity for a few miles, but its so cheap compared to petrol ,i aint really that botherd

As has been said: The sequential system should only cost around 2k +/- depending on fitter, tank size and location. do not be fobbed off with a single point system as it will only cause problems on an injected car!

I'm so convinced that I intend to have the Rolls converted this month or next.

Go on: You know it makes sense
