They are pushing them in their TV add Oz, given the choice though would recommend the Fendar Squire Kit mate.  about £100.00 but pretty well everything thrown in & first step to a genuine Strat

It's all down to the quality of the Pick Up units Oz, for that kind of money they are going to be Naff so all you achieve is Amplification of poor quality fittings mate on the other hand the Squire units are quite good although not of the quality of a full blown Guenuine Strat.

I used a Squire for 5 years or so & passed it onto my Grand Daughter who still uses it today.
On the other hand if your learning Basic Guitar a cheap Acoustic is the better way to go in as much as if your in the early stages of learning basic Chords & Riffs with an Amplified Gutar all you achieve is making your mistakes more prominent.

Check this out.

Wouldn't touch em with a barge pole personally.

As H says, best start is a Squire/Mex as they offer great quality to value and have a good resale value 2nd Hand. They also offer a great platform for mods...

I personally would never go for an American guitar as they are seriously over priced over here right now. Would more look towards CIJ models or Mexs.

Just picked up my new guitar outfit, a Laney VC15-110 and a Danelectro DC-59 Re-issue. altogether came to less than £400 just under the price of a good Fender Mex.

From the reports I have had

Pick ups are a little flat.... Amp is a joke....But the Guitar plays quite well

I think you need to check out the actual axe you are buying..IE test em..

One might be ok others might be ****e

Quality of build & materials are what you pay for with anything I suppose but quality of Amplification via the Pick Up's is a vital component of an instrument & for value for money the Squire Package offers it all Oz.
