Jane and I went to see Jeff Wayne's Musical Version of "War of the Worlds" live at the MEN Arena on Sunday, and to say it was breathtaking is an understatement!!

Jeff Wayne conducted a 46 piece string orchestra and a 10 piece rock band.
The band included most of the original musicians who played on the original album 29 years ago, including Chris Spedding and Herbie Flowers.

Justin Hayward and Chris Thompson were also on stage recreating thier roles and sounding as good as ever.

But this was only half of a fantastic night!

A 100ft by 20ft screen showing specially filmed sections and CGI created pieces of the story, a 30ft high 3 tonne Martian Fighting machine that landed on the stage, and most spectacular of all an 11ft high hologram of Richard Burtons head, which floated above the stage and was lip synched to the original narration by the master actor.

The music was absolutely fantastic, but the whole experience was so seamlessly put together that the overall effect was simply stunning.

We waited 12 months for the show and tickets were £100, and it was worth every single penny!!

If they ever do another tour, then do whatever you can to get tickets, you won't regret it!!

Ian
