hi yermaun, if i were you id buy from a repital american auto dealer, or from some one who has , "UK'ed" up there own. i brought mine from a private seller who had owned it for 4 years and had looked after it well. IMO if you buy a "fresh" import from japan and the likes, you dont really know what condition its in, there maybe some hiden dangers.

if you buy a freshly imported one, 99% of the time, the audio wont work too well, the radios dont always tune the frequency we use in the uk (unless you get a band expander?), the TV are jap spec/ DVD players the same and the cd changers.

Go for a hi top van, loads more head room.. ive got a STARCRAFT conversion van and has loads of extra bits on it. embroded seats, wide wheel arches, (most only have side skirts ). full leather , not the ones with the cheaper wood inserts in the arms. roller cubby hole doors all inside, not the cheaper hinged doors ones.

shop around, dont buy the first one you see.

IMO starcraft conversions are the nicest, try to get one with the spare wheel on the back, cause if and when you decide on lpg, the lpg tank can go under the van. if you get one with the spare wheel under the van, you'll have to move the wheel OR have the tank inside the van, and theres not alot of room in the back of these vans and might hinder the rear bench seat when you need to put it flat.

dont really know much on the mechanics of these vans.
To give you an ldea, i drive mine everyday, is my daily driver and my only means of transport.

if i put £20 ( 1.02p) pounds worth of petrol in i can get upto 72 miles on that around town, on a motorway run in overdrive i can get upto 33mpg.

these plenty of astro vans fer sale ,so would check a few out first, before you buy,
personal prefrence,i would buy the newest one you can stretch to money wise
(says the the 22 past american car/pickup owner over last 22 years owners with a 2 1/2 year old dodge ram at time of purchase cos i couldnt afford a newer one [:)])
buyin from a dealer gives you a bit of peace of mind if thes problems, but its allways bit of a gamble when buyin s/h same as any other vehicle, ive bought from both dealers an private owners over the years(mi curent dodge ram was private buy an a lot cheaper than any ram listed fer sale at any dealer ),usually dealers if i wanted to part exchange mi old motor, ive bought an sold motors at car shows some advertised some not, thinkin if the owner is prepared to drive the miles to a show it carnt be that bad an hes got faith in its reliability,
thes nowt no more scary buyin a yank than buyin a regular euro/jap motor,if it rocks yer boat an got that bit o magic that appeals to yer ,it could well be the one fer you
if its got electric whatever ,check it works windows central lockin seats aircon etc ,or make sure any faults are reflected in the price,
go fer a drive, if its auto make sure when it changes gear it seems to do what yer expecting,(probly biggest expense if not right ,but a oil an filter change can make a huge diffrence to a mushy changein box)
but all the risks are lesser ,the newer or less mileage ,
but the are also plenty of great runnin older motors ,yer just need to be on yer toes abit more
(plenty of good jap imports aswell, usually low milage, japan aint as big as USA an aint as many miles o'roads)

by the way LPG its chuffin fantastic, its 1/2 the cost of motorin miles fer me [:D]
anyways good luck wi yer search [sm=thumbsup.gif]
