mr porky -> exhaust question (Mar. 31 2008 21:30:59)

Does anyone know the ruling regarding CATS ? I have a cat fitted to my '91, it looks like it was fitted after production as it has several welded reducers either side where it mates with the exhaust. It also has a small tube sticking out from one side that is blanked off. The system is a 2 into 1 back into 2 and i am thinking of replacing it with 2 straight pipes but only if I don't need to fit 2 cats !! I am told that up to early '92 they were not a requirement and my recent MOT didn't even stick a probe up either pipe so do I need it or can I bin it !?

Sorry for these tedious questions but I am new to this scene, life was so much easier back in the days of the BLMC A series !![8|]

Ok, its a bit of a sticky one but cars from about 1992 onwards that were supplied in the uk had to have one fitted however, if your car is an import (which yours obviously is) then it must have the recommended fitment for the country that it was brought in from however, most MOT stations won't question it unless your emissions are really out. Me advice: slot in a cat replacement pipe. If your insurance queries it then, "'Twas like that when I bought it guv!" To be honest, no one is really going to mind too much as its an old car. Hope this helps.

p.s. Log on to www.photobucket.com set up an account. upload your pics following the simple instructions. Click the bottom link under each photo once to copy it. Then, when posting, click the little icon with mountains on and delete the http. bit. Paste your link in and delete the img words at the beginning and end of it and voila. Bob's your mother's brother. Photos! (it better be good after all this![:D][:D][:D])
