Somerset Area meet report..........Simon and Sue Clarke
Our very first meet ... Sunday 13th April 2008, The Longs Arms/Hungry Horse,Yarnbrook
12 Noon – 3pm.
After a on the spot decision to stop and find the owner of a 68 Mustang Coupe that we passed quite often, to see if the owner would be interested in a monthly meet, we thought that we would jump in with both feet and become area reps for the Somerset area. We found ourselves a venue and cleared things with the management, who were very willing to accommodate us. The last week or so has had us both wondering if any-one would show up. However, on the morning of the meet, we headed out with nervous stomachs into rain, sleet and hailstones, and soon found ourselves being followed by the other Day-van.
Within two minutes turning into the pub where the El Camino was already waiting, the fastback turned up, and things started to look very promising. The initial downpour only lasted 5 minutes, then the big yellow thing in the sky came out, and despite a cool wind the weather behaved itself. Word of mouth is an incredible thing..a proven fact after the two chargers turned up. Only four weeks of door knocking and chasing up sightings of local American iron and leaving flyers later, and we have a meet where we have 2 Chevy G20's, a 68 Mustang Coupe, a 65 Mustang Fastback 2+2, A 71 Charger 360, a 68 Charger 318..3spd column manual ! ,( 1 of only 3), a Chevy Astro van, an El Camino, a Dodge ex. USAF pick-up, whose owner was fresh out from under his truck fitting the steering rack, then a fuel leak, that morning, and still covered in oil, and a 429 T-bird. Also 6 Harley Davidson's in amongst a host of other bikes and a trike. The meet attracted a lot of attention from the public too, with cameras and mobiles abound, and people stopping to chat with vehicle owners in a nice relaxed, and very friendly atmosphere.
Absolutely brilliant. Can't wait 'till the next one!
It's every 2nd Sunday of the month....so there. Now you know so there's no excuse!
A massive thank-you to all who showed up, and to those who gave words of encouragement on the forum.Cheers.

hi simon and sue i'd just like to say well done on organising a great meet and thenkyou for being so welcoming. its really nice to meet a bunck of like minded down to earth people , i really enjoyed myself on sunday and i am going to try and come to as many other meets again in the future. i think you chose a nice venue - the hungry horse is just right pluss its next door to our most popular place - fuel station lol     i think i go there more than the pub, its just not right lol  anyway i do hope to see everyone again.

many thanks
