Hi !

I was wondering if any of you guys can help - I am the worst guy to have an american car as i know nothing about cars
BUT i do have an awsome old yank and I need a new carburetor. (i know lots about rocknroll though. . . )

The boys in the garage can fit a new Universal 1406 Edelbrock for me but its too expensive to buy from them.
Anyone know how much should cost me a NEW (not rebuilt) EDELBRCOK 1406 carburetor ?
If anyone knows where i can get a nice deal on it, PLEASE refer me to it, write to me niro@kinglizard.co.uk

Thanks guys!

Depends on what you call expensive ...expect to pay around £200 - £250 for a new Edelbrock carb.....and is a simple bolt on replacement job.....
by the way what awesome old yank do you have ????

1406 Edelbrock is a 600cfm carb. Real Steel sell them for around £250 for a manual choke, £280 for an electric choke. I've bought and fitted around 7 Edelbrocks over the last few years on various engines and they are pretty much fit and forget.

You can get the odd used one come up on Ebay but they still tend to go for around the £200 mark (leastways that's what a 500cfm I sold a few weeks back went for).

Edelbrocks are a direct bolt on replacement for the rochester 4-barrel and should only require a slight modification to yor accelerator cable /linkage.Get the manual choke version a far better option . As duece said they are basically fit and forget once they have been set up .which is easy to do .

Guys, Whats the difference between manual and automatic choke ???
Sometimes I get confused... You see, i'm from israel... What we call Choke there is where you have to pull a lever to heat up the engine when its cold...
What is the implication as for the driver if you have a manual or electric choke ?

The manual choke is the same as the one you are used to. An automatic choke is one that has an electrical connection to it from the ignition switch and comes on automatically when you start the engine. On the side of the carb is a flat circular housing which contains a Bi-metal switch connected to a set of contacts. The Bi Metal switch heats up slowly and eventually opens the contacts and breaks the circuit turning the choke off.
There is also another type that connects into the heating system and turns off when the engine reaches a predetermined temperature again using the bi metal strip system.
My personal advice would be to get the manual choke as this is by far the simpler of the two systems and you have more control as to when it is used.
Hope this helps.....
