Hi guys - aint been around much the last few weeks,

The company that I work for have decided that my role is no longer required (even though they employed me less than 8 months ago) so I got a phone call just over 3 weeks ago saying that I was no longer required to return to the terminal.

They are trying to redeploy me which will most likely mean working off-shore to that end I competed my off-shore survival course this week - very hard going, stuff like climbing down a knotted rope from 45 feet an droping into a swiming pool whilst wearing full survival gear. Jumping 20ft into the same pool with a life jacket on and inflated - read near whip lash as you hit the water.

And then 7 of these!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nl3sHHX9Tr0

Our one droped and rolled a little faster, and you have to wait for it to stop so your hangin upside down with full survival gear on and your seat belt, you have to bang the window out whilst upside down, release your belt and then swim out the window to the surface.  Some are done with a re-breather on -very strange sensation, the hardest on requires just holding your breath - doesn't seem like long on the vid but it is when your in there doing it for real trust me

Any how just gotta get interviews sorted now, some with the company I currently work for and i also have a few others on the go too.

Good to be back tho :)

Phil.

Hiya Phil mate,

Rumour had it you were going around the country showing off your jamjar

That crashed helicopter simulater.............. even with a rebreather do you still expel bubbles         reckon I would

I saw a documentary on leaving a burning rig ( I presume thats what you'll be on ) and they had a lifeboat up at a 45 degree angle about I dunno 80 or 150 foot up and all the workers get in it and then...........it drops into the water don't know what speed but probably more than the 30 mph your used to what you get out of your plastic car

Now about my gigabyte nano reactor streaming wosaname

Welcome back mate

Yeah col we had ago in one of them too - ya sit in em backwards and they are launched from a ramp - they're called free fall life boats - bit like going on a roller coaster.

Heres the one that my company use in dundee

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OmNv65jJxdI

I can't find vid of the blackpool ones anywhere, the dundee one is about 40 feet up, the platform ones are around 40-60 meters depending on which platform your on so about 160feet!  And they often have to be launched at least once a month for safety reasons.

Col I didn't emit any extra bubbles as ya have a full survival suit on so the extra bouency would o made it a problem

And as fer me plastic car - well you know how it goes - hope you Ford aint too close to yer comp tho even a video with sea water on can be dangerous for ford metal work

I did a similar course some years back - Petains - my old mans company design jack rigs/platforms, the idea was I worked for him.  The worse section was everyone cramming in to the inflatable liferaft, I went in first and it was really scary.

Decided against working for him, all that pain and fear for nothing!

Good luck with the interview.

Pete

Nice to have you back Phil.
Our Air Support crews have to do that stuff too.

Which is one of the reasons I'm on the ground!
