Third Annual South West camping weekend.

Friday 6th June 2008.

This year we have use of some land in Cannington, Somerset (about 2 hours closer than Devon last year, or 1.5 hours further if you are Craig!).

The facilities are basic, theres a field and a toilet.   This year we can have campfires and there are no neighbours to upset.

No cost.

General idea:

Arrive Friday pm (theres no ferries, so everyone should make it ok)
Saturday daytime - possibly cruise up to Minehead, about 40mins away.
Saturday night - either 1) BBQ or 2) local pub 5 minutes walk.
Sunday - Either Visit to Richs Cider Farm or Somerset Rural Life Centre & hike up Glastonbury Torr.

Let me know if you are interested.

LPG is available en-route at ASDA, Cribbs Causeway.

Cheers

Pete.

last year (should a been around 650 mile round trip)wi a bit arunning around (gettin lost ,an how many miles did pete say to lpg garage??) did nearly 800 mile over the weekend down to dartmouth to gettin back home [sm=confused68.gif]

Wobblychef -> RE: South West camping weekend. (May 10 2008 20:10:16)

It was 6 miles in a straight line !!! Road just not in a straight line.
There is lpg at ASDA, Cribbs Causeway, Bristol.

I have replumbed the gardeners toilet so no need for chemical loo (bit further to walk).

take a look at www.canningtongrange.co.uk

The field is in front of the main house, about 50 yards.

I reckon my journey will be about 60 yards shorter this year.

Wobblychef -> RE: South West camping weekend. (Jun. 2 2008 22:26:52)

I have organised for the grass to be cut this week.

Arrival anytime Friday.

Our address is:

The Grange
Cannington
Somerset
TA5 2LD

If using satnav the postcode will take you into the village - we are about 200m just before the village on the right (just past the Mitsubishi garage.)

Directions.....

If coming from upcountry:

M5 south down to junction 23, follow the signs to Minehead, you will go through Bridgwater, we are about 3 miles outside Bridgwater on the A39.

If coming from Cornwall:

Go over the rich mans bridge and leave Kernow, follow the big black road into Debn. Dont be frightened, it is normal for cars to pass each other without having to drive into your uncles field.  Follow this road until you leave Debn. You are now in  England - Welcome.  You will see many new things, towns, buses, brown people, people married to someone else's sister & an elephant with an ice cream cone.  When you see a big blue sign with the numbers 2 and 4 turn left.  (Remember to wait for the road to turn left, you probably wont know whose field you end up in otherwise).  You are now in Bridgwater. Follow the signs to Minehead - again, dont worry if none of the names have the letter 'Z' or the word 'An' in them.  After about 3 miles you will come to the City of Cannington (there's more than 300 peope live there, just like Truro). The Grange is just past the John Deere & Mitsibushi garage.

Travel info:

For the northerners - lpg is available at Asda, Cribbs Causeway, J17 on M5.

For Cornwallians - I have the name of a local farmer who sells red diesel.

Richs Cider farm (J22 M5) sells cider £25 for 20 litres. Take your own container, any size (but not the one you keep your red diesel in.)

For Devonians reading the travel instructions, remove any suggestion that you may be related to your wife by virtue of having the same parentage, and insert the word 'cousin' instead, we all know Devons far more civilized.

Regards

Pete
