Guys, this one's on behalf of Dek who asked me to ask y'all earlier....

apparently his van is driving 100 miles or so then the speedo starts to read lower than the speed he's doing. Then the van surges and at the same time drunk petrol.

any ideas?

Dunno about the speedo Dean.
Don't know how old the van is, is it injected? Smacks of management system problem somewhere.
Has the van got an EGR valve on it? Does it run O2 sensors at all? If the EGR valve is bad it may cause surging. Pull the vacuum hose off it and see if it runs without surging, if it does the valve is knackered and it needs replacing.
If the O2 sensors are bad or if say theres a leak anywhere in the exhaust it could fool the management system into thinking that there was a problem and result in erratic surging beacuse its constantly altering the amount of fuel fed in.

Or I could be barking mad.

Cant answer this right away, but have a sneaking suspicion its same problem I had, will find the info.

In the meantime......if he's stuck/got problems down in Somerset get him to call me and I will see if I can help.

Thanks guys, I got home with out any trouble at all. Going down was trouble all the way after the first 100 miles. It starts with the speedo jumping from around 60 up to 80 then down to 45 fast, then the van surges and trys to cut out at times. If I then stop for a while it's fine again.

I did try quite a few times on route to talk to a garage owner in Brum. Who has done work on the van at times if and when needed.Must be a busy garage because i can't get past the women on the phone to ask for help.
