P.S. I have paint, does anyone know of someone in the Northants, Cambridge area that could do it for me without charing the earth? The bumper has one or two other blemished I want to get rid off at the same time.

Pumps do get quite warm, just because they do Lee. Constant spinning I guess. Power steering hose is usually pressure rated and fairly substantial stuff. I'm not sure why its that opaque white colour though, unless its been running too hot and has foamed at some point? Definitely change it and then keep an eye on the system. Can't help with the paint mate unless you fancy travelling up North.

... as for the fluid, I have a sneaky suspicion that that's not PSF. I reckon that its brake fluid and some moron has put it in the system.

There is an additive for power steering systems thats made I think by Slick50, and its that colour. You don't suppose that someone would fill it with additive rather than ....... Nah, stupid idea.

Sorry to here about your damage....Localised repair sounds a good idea,if they can match the colour.. As for the other I agree that looks like an additive,I put something very simular in my suregrip.. But just flush all the old fluid out and start again. I would change that hose also if it had a kink in it that could starve the pump. Check the belt tension while your at it. Rich...

Bled the pump out and flushed it with two doses of PSF. Still milky but not as bad. Is not screaming now but I noticed that on hard left, the engine revs dip significantly. This happend when I stalled at the MK meet turning left into the pub and again today in the middle of Olney high street, as its had a replacement steering box, I suspect that the pump might be on its way.

...BTW. Am replacing my locks as they didn't work and all had different keys. I pulled out the passenger side one and lo and behold, its missing the semi circular link from the rod to the lock. (It wasn't in the bottom of the door either - no such luck! A small part but I am b*******d without it as it is shaped to fit the lock spindle. Anyone breaking an eighties chevy?

Had a similsr problem with my Cruiser power steering, put a couple of shots of Lucas's powersteering leak stop and she's been as good as gold for the last few months, worth a try Lee.

Only having the bad bits sprayed to match the rest at the mo, rear bumper, spoiler, skirts, one door and a wing. Long term will probably go for a complete strip out re-spray over the winter and go chrome yellow !

Auto gearbox fluid will do for your steering. Engine stalling on full lock sounds like a stuck by-pass valve, the pump can't push the fluid anywhere so it slows down in revolutions and via your belt slows the engine down. Slacken off the sterring pumpbelt and put it on hard lock and see if the belt squeels on full lock. On my Ford theres a bleed valve affair that by passes the piston back onto the return line. I get a lot of froth in the resevoir, 'aint got a clue how it gets in thee though red hot aswell......too hot to keep your finger in it. I just leave the belt a bit loose and put up with the squeel on full lock. As for your paint give Mo an e-mail, he said hes packed it in but he might be able to help out with contacts

Cheers Colin. Think I've got a local guy for the paint. Will try your suggestion for the PS. Think I'll just keep an eye out for a new pump just to be on the safe side as well.

They're $30 for a new one in the states. Proabably £150 here! I think that you might have a point Rich about the tension. I'll have a look today. There's nothing more likely to knacker a part that being over taught.
