Hello all. It has been decided by the old man, that the guy who fitted the 1978 360 motor to our Barracuda didn't swap the torque converter for a correctly weighted one, and that this may cause the vibrations the car suffers from. I don't think it's that bad at all but perhaps he's right, there's vibration all the tme but very noticeable from 60-80 mph. Car has the 904 auto transmission, and originally had a 318 motor which didn't need the weighted torque converter to be in balance, but the 360 unit does. And so does anyone have one, and if so how much do you want for it? Cheers, Lee. P.S. I can't upload pics still, even at 500x340 pixels....

Lee. Before you think about replacing any parts. Check out the Ujs on the prop, gear box mounts and suspension bushes. But if all else fails give this guy a call. Hes the gearbox king. Duncan Watts on 01270 580637. ( just mention youve spoken with me.) Richard Zealey.

if it is indeed your torque converter why buy a new one? you can have them balanced you know. richards right, you need to check your bushes and uj's, although very hardy suspension a bods suffer top arm mounts to wear quickly. ps, if you have a torque converter problem it would happen at a certain rpm range, speed would be irrelevent, does it do it at tick over, or if you hold the revs at 3 grand? if not then I'd say it's a suspension or maybe even an axle problem, do you have a suregrip diff?

It vibrates through the trasmission at all revs, but gets more noticeable as the revs rise. I don't think the suspension has anything to do with it, it isn't that kind of vibration as it does it when the suspension is sat still. So the UJ's are a possibility. Where would I get replacements? Don't know what the diff is, other than that it is a limited slip diff. And if I can get the converter weigted, do you know where/how much? Cheers very much, Lee.

Lee, where are you based..re parts and repairs. Must admit does sound like the prop ujs had the same prob with my motor took a while to show up but as with yours, it got a lot worse at speed. You need to get the car on a ramp safetly secured and have a real close look at all the drive train. Normall throw out for a prop is about 15-20% any more than that have youve got probs. R.
