1956 Studebaker Transtar 1/2 Ton Pick Up
aka YELLOW STUDE

1956 Studebaker TranstarThis is my truck 1956 Studebaker Transtar 1/2 ton pick up aka YELLOW STUDE

I first came across the stude last Christmas at a body shop (auto services) in colne Lancashire, the truck had gone a full restoration and was close to completion, ready for the owner who had commissioned her. I was currently looking at a avalanche but this undeniable classic truck caught my attention. my little knowledge of yank motors was now primed and looking at further old trucks anyway Christmas came and went, yank motors was put on the back burner for a while, until a driver had let me down and I had to go out and do his deliveries and yep you guess it I had a delivery for auto services the stude was covered up and finished Adrian came to me and told me it was for sale again! THE DEAL WAS DONE!

I have done a little research and the stude belong to a gardening contractor and looked after grave yard site's in Wichita, Kansas, I have acquired the original production ticket from the studebaker museum in south bend Indiana the original colour was day blue and was fitted with a straight six engine and three speed transmission and final production date was oct 1955,

1956 StudebakerMost of the truck is stock the tail gate was reshaped and Cadillac lights were set in, the original engine (which I still have) was replaced with 350 Chevy short block. however this winter (2004/5) yellow stude will be going back into the workshop and have a few tweaks currently the running gear is original cross beam, leaf springs and drum brakes makes for interesting driving so say the least!!

The winter work list is independent front springs, lowered all round, camero rear axle, disc brakes and power steering and with the new hubs I will not be restricted with studebaker pressed steel wheel rims (bloody awful! finding straight ones is like looking for hens teeth).

1956 Studebaker Transtar 1/2 Ton Pick UpThe result will be that smoother/safer handling been able to stop without a weeks notice (you think I'm kidding) and if that money tree still has a few notes spare the bench seat is going, my butt cheeks cant grip tight enough on those roundabouts so single seats that hug my butt with custom green/yellow leather (not sure yet on colours) upholstery will be fitted.

I like the original look and don’t want to change the overall look, I hope you enjoy my truck as I do

Thanks all
