I thought I had better get my finger out & get a profile of my Car up on the site, so.. here's my 1958 Plymouth Fury 2 door Coupe.
As most USA Road Movie fanatics will know this particular Plymouth model played the starring role in the Cult Movie of ‘Christine’ that in turn possibly played a major part in persuading most of us American Car Nuts to own & drive something special. I’m no different to any other of the hundreds of Guys who are members of our club who all have their independent favourite make or model but for me it had to be ARNI.
This particular car is unique & now a very rare model to locate especially considering that it is over 40 years old & through the popularity of the Film has become a very sought after & collectable vehicle. It was proving to be an impossible task to find an example in such pristine condition.
As I said earlier in the profile this particular car was a stand in car for the movie CHRISTINE & was supplied by a Guy called ‘Mopar Mel’ along with 4 other 2 door Plymouths, all played their part in providing ’back’ up’ vehicles for the making of the Movie.
I have always wanted one of these particular Plymouths for many years, I loved these Vintage Auto production years before any movie that featured them was even made. I remember as Kids we played in an old Plymouth Savoy parked in my Dads yard along with a few other old Yanks that would sure be worth a Crust or two nowadays.
I always loved the Fins that most Mopar stuff had designed into them, I owned a 6 cylinder Plymouth a while ago that were a nice car, but this one came up for sale and I just had to have it.
When I set to finally trying to buy the car things didn't go exactly as planned from the very start of my enquires, we had agreed a purchase price in Canadian dollars then after finalising a deal the seller changed his accepted price in Canadian Dollars to American Dollars, this resulted in additional cost of $5.800 above the original & agreed price. I just had to dig deeper into my Wallet as I weren't going to let this sucker get away, I had spent far too many years fruitlessly searching for one.
Arni was owned for the past 17 years buy a Guy named ‘Joel’ who lived in Canada, during it’s history in the ownership of Joel he had done plenty of work on the Car and looked after it well, it’ was obvious he had ‘babied’ the car that he originally bought from ‘Mopar Mel’ in the USA who during his ownership of this car & the other ‘Movie’ back up’s had fitted a nice 392 Hemi Engine fitted with ‘Dual Carters Carb’s’ too.
OK. I had parted with my ‘Buck’s’ & arrangements were made for it to be shipped into the UK from Canada. & as you can imagine the period of waiting for it’s arrival seemed like an Eternity but having searched & waited for so many years I at least knew Arni was now mine & could hardly contain my impatience to get behind the wheel of my dream car.
Unfortunately the car sustained a bit of damage at the docks when it arrived but that's all sorted now & he’s back together. Stuff that I have carried out since repairing the Shipping damage has included: New Electronic Ignition, and some great sounds too, plenty a wax oil so its ready for the summer & well protected.
I had been let down with so many attempts to locate these particular Plymouths over the years, I was just beginning to think that I were never going to own a true Fury but here he is sat in the garage & ready for the Leeds cruise next weekend for its first outing. I’m gonna cover every single mile with a huge Grin on my face stretching from Ear to Ear & who can blame me?
I sure had my mind made up before I got chance to even think as my Shipper had sent a Deposit off for the car already...too late for second thought, I am chuffed with the car and hope to do plenty of miles this summer for sure, just needs a bit a tuning and a few little bits a trim finishing off and he's sorted, no girlie names thou..ARNI,,,though looking like..lol. see you on the sunny side..dj.
