Hi AllJust found The AACI a couple of days ago (July 05), What a great gang of people, Very Helpful & Friendly & thanks to you all for the welcome & good advise.
I'm Paul From Burton On Trent (Gatsby) is my username, I have loved & owned American cars for years but with a huge gap of 9 years until my latest bright red Z28 Convertible, I run My Cab Business during the week so after running diesels all week it is a thrill to uncover the Chevy, Drop the top & hit the road, Usually accompanied by my two sons Harley 11 & Dex 9, They love it......
They are one of my main reasons for buying another American car, they have always heard the stories & seen the pictures of my previous Yanks & eventually I thought it was about time they experienced the Thrill of actually being in one.
It's a great car with only a few minor issues that need sorting, Bodywork and interior are Great and it drives really well but it could do with some Chrome Wheels, and it is far too quiet for a V8, Childish I know but I like to hear my yank, it's all part of the package and all my others have always sounded right, Apart from that It's great to have One again at long last...
Any advice on where to go for a nice set of chromes and a better exhaust system at the right price would be appreciated.
I was really looking forward to Americana this year & had promised to take my lads but just two days before the trip I changed to 1st gear for the 1st time and developed a gear shift problem on the auto box, I can only get 1st gear now, I've stripped the console to examine the linkage in the car, all looks well.... I have been underneath and had one of the boys move the shifter inside the car but nothing happens although I can manually change gear under the car so I guess it must be a cable problem, Ordered one from US Automotive @ £17.99 Great Price, I would happily recommend them to anyone, Very Reliable & Helpful.....
So now I have promised to take the lads to Matlock On a Sunday as soon as The Chevy's sorted, Always a great run out And usually a great place to view some real nice Harleys......
I have now decided Never to be without an American car of some sort in my life because you don't realise how much you miss them until you see one on the road or parked somewhere, it just makes you want to be part of the scene again, and even though I have only had the car a couple of weeks the amount of pleasure The Family & me get from it is priceless.....
If you don't have a yank but have always wanted one and the sensible side of you decides on something more Normal...... Think again, I promise you there is nothing quite like An American car, Parts are easily available, Most of the older ones are quite easy to work on, Insurance is surprisingly affordable, And when you fire it Up...... There's nothing quite like it, as long as you don't mind Lots of admiring glances, Go For It....
Thanks once again to all for a great forum & I look forward to meeting some of you in the future.
Cheers Paul Painter (Gatsby on the AACI discussion forum) Keep On Keeping On
