I've been interested in American cars for a long while, with TV programs like Dukes Of Hazzard and Knight Rider, but I never even considered buying one. The years went by and I found myself with a low mileage Ford Escort. It did the job, but not in any style... Anyway, I was turned to the idea of actually owning one by a friend of mine (Kryten on the forums) who I knew for a couple of years. He told me of the delights of owning a yank and the fun of a 25 year old Mustang II spanking some rice off the lights. I tagged along with him to the Spring Nationals back in 2002. I was hooked! My favourite looking cars were the sports cars (obviously) and I had no interest in the old ones... That's changed over time, so I have a very varied interest now.
Now, my Dad was not very happy at all with me even thinking about getting a yank in the first place. He stopped me for 4 months, and then he went on holiday... It was later that week that I got my first yank. A 1991 3.1 V6 Camaro, who's write up is also on the members pages. I spent £1,400 on the car in only a few months and that was just keeping it on the road! That nearly put me off American's for good. However, I persisted and just when the car was running fine, I sold it.
I really wanted a V8 and decided to buy a good one. Again, my parents went on holiday (2 weeks in Canada) and when they got back, I had a 5 litre V8 Camaro with T-Tops. I picked the car up in Ashford having seen it once (Thanks to Jace of Kent area for ferrying me about). It was in great condition, a small spot of rust on the hood was easily sorted out, and that was it.
The car had done just over 12,000 original miles when I picked it up. It's also a 5 speed manual transmission, with the original Goodyear Eagle tyres and £2,500 of Alpine sound system installed. It's a very original car in very good condition, and that's how I intend it to stay.
I enjoy driving the car so much, it's just the best feeling in the world...
