I am Brendan McCarth (BKM) and this is my 1997 Dodge Ram 1500 truck. I've had it since July 2000, and it's my absolute pride and joy. It's got the baby V8 in it, 318ci or 5.2 litres and is a two wheel drive model. The truck was a Sport specification to start with, but as most will know, in the States you can have whatever you want added. The person that upgraded my truck went crackers on the options list. So much so, that it came with electric everything, aircon, cruise, Infiniti 10 speaker CD player and a full tan leather interior. I'm kind of glad they did that!
I know it came in from Florida and was first registered here in January 1998. The original company, so I'm told, was a promotions company and used the truck for that kind of work. Apparently it used to get adorned with bevies of scantily clad young laydeez too. Thankfully none of them scratched the bodywork! The truck was traded to a dealer in Wetherby in Yorkshire. I saw it on the internet and when I went there and test drove it I was hooked. Even on those pokey little lanes around Bramham village my dad (who came with me for the ride) and I had some fun!
Since I've owned it, it has had an Edelbrock twin 3" exhaust fitted, a Borgeson Sportsmans truck series steering column (some Rams can be a bit sloppy around the sliding joint), Moog balljoints and suspension bushes, and the engine has been taught some new lessons by a Hyperchip programmer module. I wouldn't call the truck particularly fast, although it can fairly skip out, given it's weight and the aerodynamics of a small airport. I also added the Carr side steps and more recently a set of 20x9 American Eagle Boss chromed alloys.
The truck is surprisingly good on fuel - I get about 18mpg knocking around in it, and have had 23-24mpg out of it cruising. It was my daily driver up until about a year ago when I bought a Ford Fiesta, er, Mustang to do the running round in. I guess it's saved me a fortune in juice, but more importantly, keeps the Dodge right and out of the way of trolley rash at the supermarket.
It gets a good reaction from most people. I guess you either love them or hate them. Kids seem to adore it, the tot across the road from where I live shouts to it out of his letterbox whenever I come home in it! Its either him, or his mum is quite keen on it!!!!
I especially like having it when me and the other "Dodgeboys" (dj, Daveredneck, Steve) get together, be it at Billing, Leeds or wherever. They make a great noise together, especially DaveR's!
See you at the shows, thanks for reading.
