Putting this event together after just two weeks of organising the ‘highly successful ‘Springnationals’ proved quite an undertaking more especially as this particular Bank Holiday event was primarily to be a 60’s music event although obviously intended to also attract USA vehicle enthusiasts for a ‘Laid Back ‘ social event.
The weather prior to the scheduled start of the events was glorious Sunshine & high Temperatures but just three days before ‘kick off’ the weather took a turn for the worse & it poured with Rain from the previous Tuesday right through till the official launch of the show, this obviously meant that any ‘well planned’ layout of Traders had to be thrown out of the Window, don’t ask me how ‘Swamp Duck’ (Pam) managed to site them all so efficiently because I just do not have an answer but site them she did.
We had been informed by the Venue management that the Site was FULLY booked & out of the 400 Electrical Hook Up points on site only 30 remained and we should be prepared for a ‘Full House’.
Surprisingly the usual display or Main events field held up extremely well and Sunday dawned with clear Sky & intervals of Sunshine so the Main events field quickly began to fill up with vehicles on display, it was however the only break in the weather throughout the four day event. Possibly about 160 vehicles were on show with most other choosing to leave their motors parked up on the Camping site, understandable given the conditions.
As far as the Theme of the show was concerned (Sixties Music) things just could not have been better. Friday’s evening was catered for by Pete & Lou ‘Sound Investment’ Disco, super night lad’s. Thanks for the occasional JD.
Saturday Evening’s live entertainment in the Marquee was a simply an electrifying set by ‘Crazee Jay & the Partytimers’ who certainly proved to be a hit with everyone in the Marquee. Where she get’s her energy from I just do not know but they really Rocked and I’m delighted to see them return later in the season for another AACI Gig at the Aquadrome.
Tony Sheridan & the Wild Angels took stage during Saturday afternoon in the Marquee & also gave another great performance on Sunday afternoon under the Awning of the RV in bright Sunshine to entertain people who were browsing the Trade Stands on the events field.
Tony & the Guys return for a Gig on Friday evening for the Summernats.
Sunday evening Live entertainment was taken care of by ‘The New Union Gap’ who had many hits in the charts during the Sixties. These Guys are simply outstanding performers & their set was completely faultless, they performed many cover versions of other sixties artists including: Four Tops, A Men Corner, Rubettes, Gerry & the Pace Makers and many others, I personally was knocked out by their vocals, a simply stunning group & certainly on my books for a return gig perhaps in 2005.
Monday’s weather was unbelievably poor & torrential Rain was set to last until mid day, many Campers wisely decided to leave early as did several Traders and I fully appreciate their decisions under such atrocious conditions. What was most satisfying was a comment one of the Traders made to Pam & myself before leaving the site.
Quote: "It has cost me £300.00 in expenses & loss over this event but it was worth every Penny for just the Entertainment, can I book now for the remaining AACI events?"
My sincere thanks to all who supported the Sixties show & although we cannot control the weather I truly admire your determination to make the most of it regardless. Special thanks to the Four people who trudged through the Mud (I believe in total honesty) to request AACI Membership, welcome to the No 1 club Guys.
Sincere thanks to my team especially ‘Swamp Duck’ (Pam) you’re a Star.
What about 2005 ? All I can say is: “You ain’t seen nothing yet”.
Safe Cruising to the Summernationals.
Prez.
