AACI Rock n Roll Bank Holiday Special 2005
show fieldAs most AACI members & visitors to the site will know the R n R Special that is staged over the May Bank Holiday was a whole new event introduced into our Calendar of events for the first time in 2004.

It was not the best of Launches that one could have wished for having suffered some of the worst Rain storms possible prior & during the Three Day duration of the show but somehow we stuck with it just hoped that the terrible weather we experienced at the launch of the show would not deter Fans from supporting it’s future development. All fears were dispersed within hours of the opening of the 2005 event and it has now evident that the show is here to stay.

The setting up of the site began in the early stages of the week leading up to the main ‘Bank Holiday’ & the number of Traders that had confirmed Bookings were way above any previous expectations as were the number of Camping units arriving on site throughout the days prior to it’s official opening.

By mid day on Saturday one could have been forgiven for thinking they were at the Summernationals such was the huge number of R N R Fans camped around the whole site dotted among the many USA vehicles that had also attended the show. Such was the number of vehicles that we hurriedly placed an order for several Trophies for various categories although the event was intended primarily to be a simple Music festival in celebration & enjoyment of Rock n Roll music.

Friday evening was the initial introduction to the Special via ‘Sound Investment’ Disco that launched the early hours of the show with mainly good old fashioned R n R tracks that soon resulted in many couples on their feet ready to Rock the night away. I’m sure many a body arose on Saturday morning showing the wear & tear of too much Jiving or Drinking but still managed to pack the main field with vehicles & people spread out on the Grass enjoying the brilliant Sunshine & mini Heat wave as well as keeping the Trade Stands busy.

During the day we introduced a new category for the Car owners & a new form of attraction for visitors by way of ‘The Loudest Exhaust’ comp.

Owners who wished to take part were instructed to limit engine Revs to 2,000 RPM & officials recorded readings from a distance of a few Inches from the exhaust tip with a Decibel recoding device for accuracy. This proved to be a great attraction & a sizable crowd soon gathered around the Arena to see witch vehicle eventually won the £20.00 prize money.

StompersSaturday Evening was geared up to feature a live performance by a Band called ‘The Jellybean Stompers’ who I must admit to having never seen before but boy did they Rock the Joint for well over an hour & will most certainly be coming back to this event in the future. A tremendous & electrifying Gig that filled the Marquee to bursting point.

After such a heavy night for both the Rockers & ourselves I had expected a rather quiet start to the day on Sunday, how wrong can you be ?, cars began to roll in the gate as if it were a National Club event & hundreds of people were once again relaxing with a cold Beer enjoying the Music, Cars & Sun throughout the rest of the day.

As the event is primarily intended to accommodate Rock n Roll fans as well as vehicle owners we decided to present the Vehicle awards on Sunday afternoon rather than Bank Holiday Monday when most would be packing gear away to make the trip back home.

All too soon it was time to kick off the Sunday evening Marquee festivities with more R n R music via the DJ & ending with a live performance by ‘The Chas Hodges Trio’ another blast of a night that once again saw the Marquee packed to capacity.

Monday morning dawned all too early with very few hours of sleep after such a busy night but once again the field began to fill up with vehicles of every description.

All in all a brilliant event & my special thanks to all the R n R clubs that supported us & vowed to return next year, thanks also to the many vehicle owners & individual public who packed ‘The House’ for us not forgetting the Traders, my AACI Team, Bar, Caterers & the many other individuals who made everything so worth while.

See you all again in 2006 unless you come to the Nationals in a few weeks of course.

Keep Rockin
